Jake Petruska is a singer-songwriter and musician whose songs live somewhere between memory, heartbreak, hope, and the long road home.
For Jake, music has never been about chasing perfection. It has always been about trying to tell the truth — about the people we love, the places that stay with us, the things we lose, and the strange ways life can bring us back to ourselves.
But in November 2025, that idea took on an entirely different meaning.
Jake was set on fire in a devastating accident and suffered burns over approximately 22 percent of his body. He spent five days in a hospital burn ward before beginning a long recovery at home.
Life suddenly became very small.
There was nowhere to go and no way to rush what came next. Healing took time. Days that had once been filled with ordinary routines became days of recovery, reflection, and learning to live inside a body that had been through something extraordinary.
So Jake picked up his guitar.
At first, it was simply something he could do.
He sat at home, played, wrote, experimented with sounds, revisited memories, and followed songs wherever they wanted to go. Music became a place to put the fear, the gratitude, the questions, the loneliness, the memories, and the realization that life can change completely in a matter of seconds.
Little by little, songs began appearing.
“And somewhere during that recovery, American Twilight was born.”
i was the fire, i am the witness
The album grew from that period of enforced stillness, but its story reaches much further back — to summer nights, old highways, boardwalks, diners, people Jake has loved, people he has lost, mistakes, second chances, and the places from childhood that somehow remain inside us long after we leave them behind.
There is a distinctly American landscape running through the music: neon glowing after sunset, an empty highway disappearing into the distance, a Jersey Shore boardwalk on a summer night, an old roadside diner, headlights in the rearview mirror, a guitar in the passenger seat.
But underneath all of it is something more personal.
American Twilight is about what happens when you reach a crossroads and realize you are still here.
It is about looking backward without living backward.
It is about the ghosts we carry with us and the people who help us keep going.
It is about discovering that getting older doesn't mean the story is over — and that sometimes the part of your life you never planned becomes the part that finally teaches you what you were trying to say all along.
Jake doesn't pretend to have figured everything out.
That's part of the music.
These are songs written by someone who has lived long enough to know that love can disappear, plans can collapse, bodies can break, people can surprise you, and tomorrow is never guaranteed.
But they are also songs from someone who still believes in tomorrow.
After the fire, sitting at home with a guitar while his body healed, Jake could have seen that chapter only as something that had been taken from him.
Instead, eventually, something began coming back.
A melody.
A lyric.
A story.
Another song.
And then another.
American Twilight grew out of those songs — not as an album about tragedy, but as an album about what remains afterward.
Memory.
Love.
Humor.
Regret.
Wonder.
And the stubborn little spark inside us that refuses to go out.
For Jake Petruska, music is what that spark sounds like.
